WELCOME TO THE MISSION

The Mission Merchants Association works together to promote locally-owned neighborhood businesses.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

The Mission district is southeast of downtown San Francisco in one of the sunniest parts of the City. It is bounded by the 101 Freeway near 14th Street to the north, Dolores and Potrero Streets on the west and east, and Cesar Chavez Street (formerly Army Street) to the south. There are several major north-south thoroughfares, including the bustling stretch of commerce that is Mission Street served by the BART underground subway at 16th and 24th Streets, the trendy Valencia corridor full of bistros and boutiques, and the stately, palm-lined boulevard of Dolores Street that passes major icons including Dolores Park, Mission High School and Mission Dolores.

The stretch of 24th Street running from Mission Street to Potrero Avenue is known as “El Corazón de la Misión,” or “The Heart of the Mission.” It boasts a vast number of colorful and unique specialty stores, restaurants, taquerias, Mexican bakeries, fresh produce grocers, butchers, cafes, and art galleries, as well as the greatest concentration of murals and Latino businesses in the city.

The northeast Mission is a light industrial and retail neighborhood and home to many production, distribution and repair [PDR] businesses as well as a large art and high-tech community and a thriving retail, club and dining sector.

Whatever your interests, from foodie delights to nightclubbing, from retail therapy to cultural immersion, today's Mission can offer an ever-changing panorama of sights, sounds, tastes and opportunities to satisfy your appetite for a rich experience.

Getting to the Mission is a cinch. Bay Area Rapid Transit’s regional trains have subway stops at Mission and 16th Street and Mission and 24th Street. SF Muni features ten or more bus lines running through the neighborhood, as well as the J-Church light rail line that runs along the western edge of the district. And here in the epicenter of the “sharing economy” hiring a car or a cab is a simple as a few clicks in an app.
